I’m definitely one of those online poker players that puts a lot of focus into the type of accessories and add-ons that are a part of my computer. Personally I would never be able to sit down and play for numerous hours on end if I was forced to endure staring at a bulky 16-inch display with bad resolution. Having a nice computer setup makes my overall online poker experience more pleasurable, which plays a direct role in my success at the table. One of the easiest ways to improve upon your setup is to invest some money into a good monitor, which has luckily dipped in price dramatically over the last couple of years. However, there are a few factors you’ll want to consider when picking one monitor over another.
Size Matters
Bulky CRT screens (monitors with big boxy back ends) are a thing of the past, there’s no reason not to buy a flat-screen monitor with modern day price points being what they are. Now you just have to decide how large you want it to be. Most standard flat-screen computer displays are around 19-inches in size, but I would recommend something at least 22-inches. If you have an extra $50 – $75 (about £30 – £50) laying around though you can really go high-end and pick up a display 26-inches or larger. It may require a larger up front investment, but it’ll make you happier in the long run.
Dual-Setups
Players that like to partake in multiple sessions at once should really consider getting a dual-screen setup going on their computer. This will prevent a single display from getting too cluttered, and make it easier for you to keep track of what’s going on at each table. If money isn’t an option, then go ahead and get two 24-inch monitors going and I promise that the enjoyment you get out of playing online will skyrocket.
