Do you prefer to play your SNGs first thing in the morning? After lunch? Right before bed? All of us have different preferences on when we like to sit down and hit the single-table tournaments, but if you are not making the decision for specific reasons then you may be cheating yourself out of your individual prime playing time. Here are some things to consider when you think about whether to play morning, noon or night.
Morning sessions
Not a lot of people find themselves in the right mindset to start gambling cold hard cash right out of the gate after they wake up from what was hopefully a full night’s sleep. You may have other aspects of your life to take care of throughout the rest of the day, which could cause distractions and keep your focus away from the game. Morning sessions are recommended only to those that have no other source of income other than SNGs/poker, since they already treat it like a job.
Afternoon sessions
This is a common time of day for many SNG enthusiasts, as it allows them to shake off the morning cobwebs, handle some important life affairs and then settle into a match. If timed properly, this will also be when your energy is at its peak, allowing you to play for many hours without needing to take a proper break. Afternoon sessions are recommended to all players, regardless of their other responsibilities, as it gives them the most flexibility.
Night sessions
Many hardcore session players are night owls by choice, which is why you will find them moving from tournament to tournament long after the sun has gone down. The major drawback is that if you have already had a busy day, you might not have the energy you need to grind out one event after another. Night sessions are great for those who are accustomed to staying up late and who find that the lack of distractions makes it easy to focus.
