Frist Backs Out of 2008 Presidential Race

By: Jennifer Browning – November 29, 2006

The father of UIGEA, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist announced he will not seek presidency in 2008.

"In the Bible, God tells us for everything there is a season, and for me, for now, this season of being an elected official has come to a close. I do not intend to run for president in 2008."
- Bill Frist, AP story

But was it God or the Securities Exchange Commission investigation that helped Frist decide against a presidential run? According to an Associated Press story the SEC has been investigating Frist for over a year after allegations of insider trading through the sale of shares in HCA Inc., his family's hospital company. Frist denies any wrongdoing.

I thought it was everyone who voted Democrat earlier this month that influenced him. If the Senate/House stayed Republican do you think God would have told him not to run?

Good point. Maybe it's also that he didn't stand a chance against the other Republicans running either. Maybe his fantastic performance with UIGEA hurt him a little too? For me, I have a problem with someone who gets a hypocritical bill passed by trying to be sneaky about it like Frist did with the Port Security Bill. I know things like this happen all the time and maybe I am just one of the bitter ones because of the direct personal impact the bill had on me...if anything I appreciate Bill for the personal lesson in how our country's system works.

check out what the conservative bob novak has to say about frist:

The news that retiring Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is out of the 2008 presidential race came as no surprise. He is perhaps the second-biggest loser (the biggest loser, of course, being Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen) from the 2006 election among the presidential contenders -- bigger even than Sen. John Kerry. Frist had not been considered a serious presidential contender even before the election, though. Not only does Frist now leave the Senate in Democratic hands, but he barely missed having his own seat go to the Democrats.

so basically, Frist sucks, and we got knocked out by a landmine. what can ya do?
