I've got lots of info to share today on Richard Lee's non-arrest. Turns out when cops (complete with a mini-SWAT team) busted into his home to confiscate his five cars and all sorts of other goodies, he was playing a tournament on PartyPoker.
Many interesting things to be said about that -- to some extent its an endorsement that our very good PP friends didn't have to pay $500k for. But it's also interesting important, because the Bexar County district attorney has reportedly come out and said that that act in and of itself is illegal!
(?)
Oy, tough days ahead. (Especially as the Senate convenes next week with discussion of the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act on its agenda.)
For me, personally, I now have all sorts of dilemmas as well. You see, when I took this gig with PokerBlog, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with my first little baby, Pokerati.com.
I had decided that Pokerati was gonna go more local, more Texasy. And I would also keep that space for in-depth discussions about poker laws. Because PokerBlog ... well this site would appeal more to the masses, I concluded. Here is the place to write about the (inter?)nationally known pros, the big tourneys, etc. And in general, PokerBlog would be more about the fun of poker, the greatness of it ... keeping it great, yadda yadda.
But this will require some rethinking now, as there seems to be a whole lotta overlap between Texas laws, federal laws, "local" players, and globally important poker developments.
So stay tuned (to both sites) as the past, present, and future of Texas Hold'em will hinge greatly on what goes down in Texas.
