As the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) comes to a head over in Cannes, most of the players who played there will be packing up their bags and heading across to the Italian Riviera to play in a wealth of events that PokerStars are putting on over at the European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo.
The San Remo stop has always been a popular one on the tour, but previously was in the schedule in springtime, just before the grand final in May. However, a shift in scheduling this year, perhaps to tie in with the number of big names who will already be in Europe, had led this year’s appearance in Italy to take place in October. There are a long list of events with the €4,600 + €300 No-Limit Hold’Em Main Event at the top of them.
Last year saw a field of 987 turn out to the main event and it was Brit Rupert Elder who took top honours that day, taking home the top prize of €930,000 after beating off a tough final table that included Max Heinzelmann and Max Lykov. Since then Elder has not had too much to shout about, aside from a deep run in the World Series of Poker Main Event, but he will be looking to defend his title against a tough field this time round.
Other events set to be played out include a €1,000 + €100 No Limit Hold’Em turbo bounty event, a Pot-Limit Omaha tournament with one rebuy allowed, again costing €1,000 + €100. The biggest buy-in will be the €10,000 + €300 8-max No Limit Hold’Em event, which allows one rebuy also.
The main event kicks off on Friday and has two starting days. It will run all the way through until 27th October. PokerBlog will, of course, keep you updated every step of the way.
