James “Asprin1” Akenhead made a return to his winning ways over the weekend when he took down the premier online tournament PokerStars Sunday Millions. The 28-year-old poker player and member of the London group “The Hitsquad” has been quiet of late but this win certainly puts him back in the poker limelight.

Taking the prestigious weekly online poker tournament increased Akenhead’s bank balance by a useful $213,750 in what, at times, was a tense match. The final heads up saw him against Pnp23 and either excitement or nerves got the better of him when he mistakenly, or with inspired betting, raised by 8,000,855 instead of the more expected 800,855. Pnp23 took the bait and ended up losing the hand, putting Akenhead in a very good position.

When the end came both players were still evenly matched when Akenhead went all in holding K,J and saw that his opponent fancied his chances and followed – feeling his pocket eights might do the job. With the flop reading 7,6,5 Pnp23 must have been feeling confident but by the river it was Akenhead who had received the help with the final king and took the title.

Akenhead hit the highlights back in 2008 with his first real big win coming at the 2009 WSOPE event four, where ninth place secured him $108,360. His next big victory was in the 2009 WSOP main event where ninth place this time gave him a massive $1,263,602 for his troubles. Since then he has quietly continued picking up pots along the way, most recently finishing fourth in the 2011 EPT in Madrid, earning himself £27,973. Despite a six-month absence his weekend win firmly puts him back on the poker scene and hopefully we will see more of Akenhead at the summer tournaments.
