Bellagio Cranberries Thief Sentenced

Aug 24

Anthony Carleo, the man who hit the poker news back in February after being arrested for a robbery at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas has today been sentenced.

The 30-year-old son of a Las Vegas judge was sentenced this week to three to 11 years for the robbery that saw him take around $1.5 million in gambling chips, including a number of infamous “cranberry” chips that were worth $25,000 a piece.

Carleo Stupidly Attempts To Offload Chips On 2+2 Forum

It was reported that Carleo stormed into the Bellagio Casino back in December and stole a number of chips from in and around the casino wearing a motorcycle helmet.

After some time, he tried to offload the higher value cranberry chips to certain people, one of whom was a twoplustwo poker forum member, and had sent some private messages to people who pitched in a thread about what one would do to get rid of those chips if they had them.  Once the forum member had made a connection with Carleo he shopped him to the police, and the rest was history.

Shopped By 2+2 – Carleo Pleads Guilty To Charges

Originally, police had been suspicious when a Salvation Army bell ringer claimed a man had dropped a chip in his basket, and the police had discontinued the chips in an effort to draw the thief out of hiding.  It was believed that as a result, Carleo had apparently panicked and posted on twoplustwo looking for answers on what others would do, which eventually led to his downfall.

Carleo pleaded guilty back in June to charges of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.  Eight other charges were dropped as part of a deal with prosecutors for a guilty plea.

However, this week the man was finally sentenced to at least three years in prison for the robbery of a theft that he ultimately gained nothing from.
