The players will have a shock at the end of the month when the European Poker Tours returns to the cooler shores of the French seaside resort, Deauville. Whilst the players have been sunning themselves in the Caribbean and Australia, France has been getting ready to welcome them for the next EPT event.

The Main Event at the Deauville International Centre runs from the 31st January and lasts seven days. With a €5,000 + €300 buy-in this event promises to be as exciting as any other.

Last year saw a record amount of players joining this event with a staggering 891 poker enthusiasts playing for the final title. With the bubble bursting at 129, this guaranteed all players left in the event a minimum of €7,500.

French, amateur, poker player Lucien Cohen took the title and $880,000 purse, seeing off plenty of the top poker players from around the world. Cohen who had been playing poker as a hobby for 20 years managed to beat well-known Swedish professional, Martin Jacobson, in the heads up.

The top players were well-rewarded last year and the final table finished up as:

Lucien Cohen              €880,000

Martin Jacobson          €560,000

Alexander Wice          €330,000

Julien Claudpierre       €260,000

Kaspars Renga           €200,000

Kenny Hallaert           €155,000

Anthony Hnatow        €110,000

Ruslan Prydryk           € 66,800

Laurent Polito             € 50,000

Interviewed afterwards Lucien said “I’m very proud to be the first French EPT Deauville winner. It’s a very emotional moment. I want to say thank you to the organisers, the EPT and my opponents. This is one of the best days of my life after my wedding and the day my children were born.  I’m happy, happy, happy.”

So now the poker world is awaiting the final events in the Aussie Millions and looking forward to the poker stars arriving in France for the next leg of the European Poker Tours event.
