At an action-packed final table at the European Poker Tour (EPT) main event in Prague, it was German player Martin Finger who beat off the competition and took down his first ever EPT title and €720,000 along with it.
Not only was this the German’s first EPT title, it was his first ever cash in an EPT event, having played ten of them. However, when he came into the final eight players with the chip lead, he looked like he would be a tough nut to crack if anyone wanted to wrestle the title from him.
As the day began, it was Finger and Frenchman Nicolas Levi battling it out for the chip lead, but David Boyacayin had something to say about that. Early on he got his top set in against Levi’s flopped two pair, sending him to the top of the pile while Levi had to work hard to get back into contention. Meanwhile, Mads Wissing was short as play began, and that was reflected in the fact that he departed first within the first hour.
Wissing Out in Third Place
It was the first three mentioned who made it to the final three, but Levi could not follow in Arnaud Mattern’s shoes in winning an EPT event in Prague as he busted in third. Boyacayin and Finger began an epic battle that saw the former chip away at Finger’s 4-1 chip lead for hours, winning small pots and eventually taking the lead. However, Finger wrestled it back and then got into a pre-flop raising war with Ace King, eventually 4-bet shoving and getting a call from Boyaciyan and his pocket tens. The flop brought two kings and no ten to send the title the way of the German, with Boyaciyan having to settle for second place.
The payouts were:
1st Martin Finger €720,000
2nd David Boyacayin €535,000
3rd Nicolas Levi €270,000
4th Guillen Usero €205,000
5th Denys Drobna €160,000
6th Ari Engel €125,000
7th Andreas Wiese €90,000
8th Mads Wissing €66,700
