Last year’s World Series of Poker Player of The Year runner-up Michael Mizrachi took down his second World Series of Poker bracelet over the weekend.
The tournament was the €10,400 buy-in No Limit Hold’Em Split Format event, which comprised of 9-handed play on Day 1, 6-handed play on Day 2 and Heads-Up on Days 3 and 4. 125 players entered the event, resulting in the biggest prize pool of the series yet with €1,200,000 up for grabs. It was Mizrachi who took the most with a top prize of €336,008.
Mizrachi’s first bracelet came back in 2010 when he took down the $50,000 Players Championship and he came close to his second when he got to the November Nine last year. However, the final table didn’t go exactly as planned and he ended finishing in 5th place taking home $2,332,992.
The big buy-in meant the best of the best turned out for the event and by the time we got down to the final 16 and heads-up play, there were still a number of big names left in for Mizrachi to battle it out with.
The likes of tournament legends Jason Mercier and Erik Seidel were still alive along with other notable names, such as Noah Schwartz, Brian Hastings and Kent Lundmark. Mercier and Seidel finished in 9th and 12th respectively, both taking home €26,618 for their efforts.
It was Lundmark that Mizrachi defeated first in heads-up play, followed by Hastings and Roger Hairabedian, before knocking out Shawn Buchanan in 2nd when his Ace Ten hit a ten to crush Buchanan’s Ace Jack and take home the title.
The top four finishers were:
1st Michael Mizrachi €336,008
2nd Shawn Buchanan €207,624
3rd Roger Hairabedian €112,092
4th Noah Schwartz €112,092
