Hollywood actor and part-time poker player Tobey Maguire has come to a settlement with Brad Ruderman after a lawsuit was filed against him relating to a high-stakes home game with some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Ruderman filed a lawsuit claiming $311,000 from the Spiderman star after he lost a lot of money at the home games. He claimed that Maguire violated rules and regulations toward home games, and that the money was unlawfully won.

However, Ruderman is currently serving time in jail in Texas for ten years after committing two types of fraud relating to his business “Ruderman Capital Partners.”  The company was discovered to be a Ponzi scheme by the FBI and Ruderman was jailed, after it was revealed he lost somewhere in the region of $25 million of investor’s money, some of it at the Hollywood poker games that were held. The money may well go to a bankruptcy trustee if it is approved by a judge who is attempting to recoup money for Ruderman’s crimes to pay back investors who lost money.

Maguire Not Pleading Guilty

The settlement, however, does not confirm that Maguire committed any wrongdoing. The agreement means Maguire is paying out less than was originally claimed but trustee Howard Ehrenberg said that the risks and costs associated with proceeding with court action resulted in him agreeing to the deal. However, Maguire contended that he lost some money to Ruderman in the games as well, and so should not have to pay out the full amount.

Gabe Kaplan already agreed a settlement with Ruderman whilst Nick Cassavetes, a film maker is still fighting the lawsuit against him.
