About 25 minutes ago, the bubble burst on the Main Event, with 879 players going totally apeshit at their newfound fortune. Grown men stood on chairs and cheered for nearly a full minute and I witnessed at least one jubilant player drop to his knees and gaze heavenward in thanks.
As the excitement died down and the cards went back in the air, "all-in" was the room's new mantra, as shortstack after shortstack pushed in. In the first 15 minutes after the tournament reached the money, 140 players were eliminated in rapid succession, clogging the cashout line. Play was paused again until the queue reached a more manegeable length. 730 players remain in action.
Both Tuscaloosa Johnny and Ryan Kallberg are in the money and have 105K and 98K respectively. Well played, gentlemen.
Think about this for a second: 879 players CASHED the 2006 Main Event. That's 40 more than the number of players who ENTERED the 2003 Main Event.
