Careers

BevisThis comes from the Kansas City Star newspaper. The reporter did an article on "changes of mind" that people had made, which greatly affected their lives. I offer this bit of wisdom just to remind you who might be sitting next to you at the poker table. Remember, the more you know about your opponent, the less likely they will infect you and turn your brain to dried figs.

Jason Javetts (name changed to protect the guilty), 38, a former technical recruiter. Changed his mind about: His career and his religion. First, Prince decided he wanted to leave his job and go to law school. Then he changed his mind about law school.

Now? He’s moving to Las Vegas to become a professional poker player. He’s not bluffing. In 2005 he spent four months in Vegas and supported himself playing nothing but poker.

He has also changed his mind about being fundamentalist Christian. He grew up speaking in tongues and casting out demons. But after studying literature in college, he said, he was exposed to new ideas and started thinking for himself. Jason said:

“I liken it to ‘The Matrix’ and taking the red pill.”

Yep, just like Lindy's Old Granny always said:

"If you don't know what to do with your life....take the red pill and play poker or was it the blue pill and become a mime?"
