pokerdomeLAS VEGAS - The nationally televised poker game, sponsored by Mansion online poker, is folding its hand after one year, leaving another hole in a struggling downtown Las Vegas retail scene. The Poker Dome will be gone from the Neonopolis center by the end of August.

"We received word at the end of season one that the network no longer wanted to produce the show."

Fox Sports Network dropped its "Poker Dome Challenge" after the show's sponsor Mansion dropped support. The show had provided a new angle in coverage of Texas hold 'em poker tournaments by strapping pulse monitors to players and using a "speed tournament" format with 30 second decision clocks.

While the network's explanation of the closure was officially the declining popularity of televised poker shows. We all know that Mansion stop taking US players because of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act. So chalk up another batch of jobs lost because of morality based, freedom restricting legislation.

The Poker Dome set will remain intact for the immediate future, although the two movie theaters that had been converted to production and engineering booths will be converted back.
