LAS VEGAS--The highly anticipated Professional Poker League (PPL) held it's player draft yesterday at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. Media access was heavily restricted and those that were allowed in were sworn to secrecy. They cannot tell you that the eight teams were divided into categories: the "old guys" the "young guys", female players, European players etc. "I'll take non-bracelet winners from the Ukraine for one hundred Alex."
The names of the players by teams will not be released until the PPL is ready to play and with sponsorships still unsigned and tournament dates as yet unset; we can expect to hear a lot more "secret" media hype and perhaps "see" no PPL poker in the near future.
Secrecy is good for things like the Normandy Invasion or sleeping with your sister-in-law....otherwise it looks and sounds like you are playing 007 with a poker promotion.
Repeat after me guys:
"The media are our friends."
"There is no such thing as bad publicity when you haven't signed your sponsors yet!"
