I love Vegas, and I always want people to have a good time here. Even if—dare I say it—they don't like to gamble. There's a lot to do in Las Vegas no matter what your interests are. Take your pick from shows, celebrity chef restaurants, night clubs, spas, outdoor activities, etc. But lets start with square one…where to stay? I will do a series of posts that talk about some of the more notable places to crash in Sin City.
$100-$200
I've sampled a few rooms around town and my hands down favorite is THEHotel. I think it’s the best room under $200, and while their days of offering $129 deals seem long gone, they're still worth anything under $200 and then some. All of their rooms are modern 750sq ft suites with a separate bedroom and living room. In the living room there is a sofa, 42" plasma TV and a desk for those that need business amenities like high speed internet access and a fax/printer. The bath tubs are equally impressive and you can watch a little plasma from the oversized tub (for two?). Couples will enjoy the fact that THEhotel rooms have two bathrooms. The big one, and a little one in the hallway, sometimes referred to as "the duty chamber". I jest. If you stay at THEhotel you have your own registration, valet, bar & lounge, café, spa and fitness center, along with all the other casino amenities that Mandalay Bay guests have.
Don’t forget that the Mix Lounge and Alain Ducasse's Mix Restaurant are located up on the 64th floor with a sweeping view of the Las Vegas Valley. Corner rooms are the best, so get your tip out when you check in. If you're looking for the felt, THEhotel has the closest rooms to the Mandalay Bay poker room located next to the Race & Sports Book.
A close second are the Augustus Towers at Caesars Palace. These are also elegantly designed rooms with generous space. The difference? No separate bedroom, but the big bath tub has easy to operate Jacuzzi jets. Ask for a room facing the Bellagio so you can see the fountain show from your room at night. Not interested in room service? The Augustus Café right downstairs has a great breakfast. Start with the mini doughnuts to keep your coffee company. Need some action? Head over to the poker room next to PURE and the Race & Sports Book.
I also enjoy the rooms at Paris Las Vegas. This always surprises people, especially men. As you would expect, it has a Parisian country feel to the design, and the rooms are smaller than those that I've mentioned above. But the staff is cheery always greeting you in the halls with, "Bon Jour" or "Bon Chance!". And...their $70 breakfast tourney gathers about 30-40 people a day.
I don't think the rooms at Bellagio are anything special if you are getting the low level rooms, but you can ask for a lakeside room for an extra $50 at check in. That would be something.
